Hello Tanner Elementary!
I am delighted to be entering my thirty first year of service in education with Tanner Elementary. I have been employed with the Limestone County School System since 1987, and have served as the Assistant Principal for Blue Springs Elementary for the past year and a half. Prior to joining the Blue Springs faculty I was the designated Assistant Principal and instructional coach at Piney Chapel Elementary School for 12 years. Earlier in my career I taught first grade, second grade, Title 1 Reading and Math classes. My very first teaching opportunity was at Tanner in 1987 as a Title 1 math and reading teacher. By teaching grades K-5 I have been able to gain classroom experience and knowledge that has allowed me to better understand the flow of curriculum across the grade levels.
My undergraduate degree in elementary education was attained from Athens State University. I also acquired a Masters in Elementary from Alabama A&Am, a Masters in Administration and Supervision (Educational Leadership) from University of North Alabama and an Educational Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision (Educational Leadership) from Samford University.
I am married to Ted Barnes, and we have two daughters and a son, Mandy, Magen and Matthew. Mandy is married to Eric Tucker and they have three wonderful children, Kagan, Baylee and Mattie. Mandy has a degree in Special Education and taught at Elkmont High School but now is teaching at Sugar Creek. Magen is a Pediatric Registed Nurse at Women and Children’s Emergency room. Matthew graduated from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in April with a degree in Health Care Management and is currently working on his Masters' degree in Health Administration. We are a very close family and I enjoy spending time with them any opportunity I can get.
I look forward to a great 2017-2018 school year at Tanner Elementary!
